Intensive Workshops – Dance and Drum intensives provide for more in-depth exploration of specific rhythms and dances. Most Marimba workshops are offered as intensives. These intensive classes will have the option of performing at the student/teacher performance.
Dance Classes– African Dance classes are offered all day long at all levels from beginning to advanced, including 2 gumboot dance, contemporary African, and intensive (performance) workshops.
Drum Classes – are offered all day long for beginning, intermediate and
advanced drummers, including Dunun classes and intensive workshops. Bring your djembe, ngoma and dunun drums!
Marimba Classes – Marimba classes are offered throughout the day at all levels. Instruments are limited for these classes.
Mbira/Nyunga & Kalimba Classes- Mbira, kalimba, and/or Nyunga classes will be offered on a daily basis. Instruments are limited for these classes, bring your mbira, nyunga, and/or kalimba if you own one! Singers are welcome to these classes!
Song classes – at least 2 song classes are offered daily. Singers are also encouraged to attend mbira, Kalimba and nyunga classes for extra opportunities to sing.
Children’s Program - From 10-4 each day, children in the program can participate in drum, dance, singing, marimba and crafts classes taught by a variety of teachers. A performance dance class culminates in a show at the end of camp, complete with wonderful costumes. Start encouraging your kids now!
Special Offerings
Student/Teacher Showcase – On the last day an informal performance will showcase our teachers and students.
The performance date and time: Friday, June 1st 2012 ~8:15 pm
Admission is $10 for non-participants including family and friends. Seating is limited!
Evening Gatherings – Aside from informal “jams” and other community gatherings, each year several different local and international bands are showcased for your dancing pleasure. New this year – BYOIPOD! Make a great playlist and bring your ipod to be a DJ for the dance party in the dance hall on Thursday night!!
Marketplace – Open daily for buying, selling and trading. Camp participants are welcome to vend and are required to contribute 15% of their earnings. Non-participants pay ½ the daily fee (to cover meals and camping) plus 10%. Vendors provide their own display tables.
